UPDATE: two week check up. Still can't feel my thumb

Stitches coming out, swelling gone down.

Pin still poking out sporadically. Bit annoying.

There's that pesky little bit of wire holding on the little bit of what was left of the end of the radius.

Stitches out and new cast on for another four weeks until all the ligaments have healed enough to start some proper rehab.

So it finally came. After many twists and sprains, bruises and lumps, cuts, grazes, SF street back burns, one-month-long migraines and unexplained incapacitations, I finally broke something outright. Shredding Stockwell with Seth and Jacob Kit, I bailed a 50-50 on one of the steep quarters, stepped off gracefully, only to find my board unexpectedly under my feet once again... I went down pretty quickly.

I'm so glad Seth was there to help out and get me to the hospital. I thought it was dislocated at first. We even considered trying to pull it back into place ourselves.

The guy at the Urgent Injury clinic at St Thomas' A&E was very helpful indeed but confirmed the worst. Distal radius off-ended with a pretty awkward dislocation. My fingers were going blue by this point as the nerves, ligaments and all the piping through my wrist were being strangled.

After a quick bit of surgery the next day I was feeling pretty whacked out but did manage to wake up to some pretty faces.

Here you can see where they performed the Carpal tunnel decompression (to release the nerves etc) and some other roadworks relating to ligaments. I just have one bit of wire holding on what was left of the end of the radius. I also have a good supply of pain killers which are helping out pretty well...

A Day And The Life

14 years and one day ago I was sitting in the pub with Paul Gonella contemplating making some kind of sponsor me tape. I guess I thought I was ripping back then. The actual original idea for making to tape came from my friend Ben who said I should try to get on flow for one of the Tum Yeto brands that Slam City were carrying at the time. I had nothing to lose really.

The next day (I'm pretty sure that's right) I arranged to meet Paul at Southsea skatepark nice and early and we were blessed with great weather to go film some stuff. The idea was to see how much footage we could gather in one day in one town. I think we got to about seven minutes of crap. Filler or killer, you'll have to decide for yourself. I think I invented a trick that day too.

We edited the whole thing together with two VCRs and were both pretty stoked with what we'd achieved in just one day.

Anyway, this was the start of it all.

Once again, I'd like to that Gonella for making this possible, my dad's old RAF trousers and Tum Yeto for inspiration...

I'm helping the Guildford guys put together plans for the skatepark there. Seems like a rad chance to build something interesting in the area. Feedback appreciated...

Not drawn to scale and some bits obviously don't flow, but it's a start.

The council have stipulated that there must be a path to the skatepark. Fine by me if we can adapt that slightly...

Random obstacle ideas. If you've ever skated anything like those transitioned flat bars let me know. I need to figure out how big/steep the ransition needs to be to make them work...

Got down to Cornwall to skate with Pin at Helston and Truro. Ran into Louie Jones who was shredding (minus the pink denim unfortunately). The rest of the week was pretty much dominated by road rage focused on the germans utilizing the A303, mid-life sambuca fueled shockers, corroded brass instruments, Trivial Pursuit white-washes and general ambiguity.

Before Tod Swank's Foundation lost it's way it was one of the best skateboarding companies around. A refuge for nerds and the socially inept that had nothing but skateboarding to fill their lives. You can see why I was attracted.

Steve Olson did a lot of damage to Hubba Hideout that day. If you watch back 'Super Collider, Super Conductor' and 'Tentacles of Destruction', you'll see a lot of NBDs, mostly never to be repeated and some rightly so. Some of my favourite highlights are Olson's fs flip to fakie 5-0 and Beagle's 5-0 tre flip and hardflip bs 5-0. Imagine if Tod had managed to keep this team together; it'd definitely be a force to be reckoned with. Trying to make up a new trick is fundamental to skateboarding. I'd rather see one sketchy manual roll variation by Joshua Zeus than a million sections for Prod and Sheckler, neither of which have invented a trick in their lives.

I never had that first Slap mag with the iconic Carroll cover. I never realised this was the back cover ad. I did however, have a grip of these decks during the Summer of '92. Whilst everyone else was skating ASDA carparks pretending they were at EMB, I was whizzing around in my own world with a head full of Cat Stevens being the nerd that I'm sure to always be.

What happens on tour, stays on tour (unless you bring it back with you). This was on the VanSUK tour of 2001. It actually felt like what being sponsored was all about. That was Pizzer on the tour, not me. I think he laughed his head off every day and ended each one with a beer in his hand.

Stockwell is looking pretty good these days. It's only better. Nothing's been taken away; just added. If all skateparks were designed in a similar way to this we'd all be better off I'm sure. I bumped into Gorm and he got a few snaps with his B-Team setup. I'm looking forward to getting out with him some time with the full kit.

Got up to that Wednesfield park the other day. It's near Wolverhampton and pretty damn good. Kind of like a mini Stoke plaza with quite a few more interesting bits and some good lines. You should definitely take a look if your ever heading up the M6 just outside of Birmingham.

Tonsillitis is pretty rad at 33 too. That took me out for a week.

Got along to the Tweaker exhibition the other day at SlamCity. Tweakerzine is getting better all the time. I'm backing it for sure. There's a ton of content, some rad photos and it's put together by some of the best people in skating.

More news to come. I'm going to be 34 in December. Maybe that's a good time for a change...
